Ice Skating Rinks in theTropical countries? Of course, yes! It is the coolest place in S.E.Asian countries. When it's hotter, more people come to ice rinks to be away from the heat. In fact, most of the ice rinks in SE Asian countries are quite neat. Mostly located in shopping malls like the ones in the US. Most of them are very efficiently designed (sizes approx. 600m²-1,000m²) being in a shopping mall while most of Japanese ice skating rinks are designed for international compeition standard (sizes approx. 1,300m² - 1,800m²). Let us introduce you some of our ice skating rink projects as well as other rinks in SE Asia.

Size: 40m x 20m. Installed by Patine Corporation's subsidiary in Hong Kong. Opened in June 1987. The Cityplaza is one of the most successfully operated ice skating rink in the world (left photo) with very strong and extensive recreational ice skating school and marketing program. Located right above Taikoo Station of Hong Kong subway. With over 50,000 residents in the high rise complex, shopping mall as well as bus terminal right next to it, the location cannot be better than Cityplaza.
Ted Wilson, the manager and head coach, is the 1st ISI Asia president and has been making a great contribution to the entire ice skating industry in SE Asia. Cityplaza's reputation upgraded the level of ice skating reputation and image in Asian countries.
The Skate Asia 2001 will be held at Cityplaza Ice Palace together with the Glarcier below in August, 2001.

They have a special skating class for Japanese kids. Classes are conducted by a Japanese coach as well as local coaches.

Size: 18m x 29m. Installed by Patine Corporation's local subsidiery. Opened in January, 1991. Riviera Ice Chalet is the smallest ice rink in Hong Kong but has a very strong and suscessful ice skating school. About the same time as this ice skating rink was installed, there were two more ice rinks installed; namely Whompua Super Ice (21m x 42m/Installed by Patine Corproation's local subsidiery) and Tsuen Wan Plaza (21m x 42m/Installed by Patine Corporation's local subsideiry). Those two ice rinks were closed when Asian economical crises happened. Riviela Ice Chalet is still open through out the year.

Size 18m x 41m. Locted in the Dragon Center shopping mall and the biggest ice rink in Hong Kong. The shopping mall atreum area has an indoor roller coaster which goes into the ice rink area. Size 23m x 50m. The same owner as the Cityplaza opened this ice rink in the beautiful shopping mall Festival Walk on the Kowloon side in December, 1998. The Skate Asia 2001 event will be held at The Glacier together with the Cityplaza Ice Place in August, 2001.

Size 40mx24m. Open in September, 1994. Installed by Patine Corporation. Located in front of Jurong East MRT Station. This ice rink was originally opened in June, 1998 at the former Rex Theater (also installed by Patine Corporation) and relocated to the current location in 1994.
Patine Corporation also support their management and operation since 1994. Skating School program is rapidly growing and thier annual event "SKate Singapore" is drawing more and more participation from not only in Singapore, but also from other Asian countries.

Size 840m2 irregular shape with colum in the center. Opened in September, 1992. Installed by Patine Corporation. Located in the biggest shopping mall in Philippines. This 550 meter long SM Megamall draws 300,000 people per weekday and 1.2 million people per day on weekends. The ice skating school is also very well popular and they are sending more than 100 peple to the ISI World Recreational Championships in the US every summer.
As most of you may know, skaters from Philippines are very graceful and artistic. Their skill level is also rapidly improving. It is not going to be too far away to see a world figure skating champion from Philippines.

Open in December, 1997. Locatd in a Sunway Pyramid shopping complex adjusent to the Sunway Lagoon Hotel & Resort. This ice rink hosted the 1st Skate Asia Recreational Ice Skating championships in August 1999 with more than 400 skaters from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan and the USA.
